Michelle Obama Addresses Kidnapping Of Chibok Girls: “In Those Girls, I See My Daughters”

The First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama has condemned the kidnapping of over 200 girls in Borno, accusing Boko Haram of trying to steal the futures of the young girls.

In these girls, Barack and I see our own daughters,” Mrs. Obama said, referring to Malia, 15, and Sasha, 12. “We see their hopes, their dreams and we can only imagine the anguish their parents are feeling right now.”

What happened in Nigeria is not an isolated incident, the first lady said, but is “a story we see every day as girls around the world risk their lives to pursue their ambitions.”

“This unconscionable act was committed by a terrorist group determined to keep these girls from getting an education — grown men attempting to snuff out the aspirations of young girls,” she said. “Let us hold their families in our hearts during this very difficult time, and let us show just a fraction of their courage in fighting to give every girl on this planet the education that is her birthright.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Speaks to ABC reporter on #BringBackOurGirls

Nigeria’s Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala recently spoke to an ABC News reporter on #BringOurGirlsBack While the minister was clearly exasperated by the unscheduled interview as she stepped out of a session at the World Economic Forum in Abuja and mentioned being tired of the ‘Same Story”, she did make it clear that the Nigerian government is fully committed and putting every effort into finding the girls including the creation of a crisis centre , Safe Schools Initiative, aerial surveillance and more. In addition, she empathized that “terror will win when you divide”. She mentioned that Boko Haram attempted to stop the WEF from taking place in Abuja but didn’t succeed, therefore “Terror has lost”. She also commended world leaders for attending the WEF in Abuja despite the threats. In the end, politely excuses herself, she walks away and directs the reporter to the Minister of Defense.
